Removing baffles from Cobras?

Is it possible to remove the baffles in the Cobra Longs on my V2k? A few guys in my neighborhood ride harley's and none of them have baffles in their exhausts. I'm also wondering what it will sound like.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Landon

PS: Baffles removed, sound clip at the bottom.

Yes, remove the tips (one screw each) then remove the other screw (about 4 inches up the pipe) then pull the baffles out and reinstall the tips.
+1

To add... The pipes will sound a lot better.

My experience with the cobras are that they are loud when opening the throttle, but at idle and cruising at a constant speed, the pipes are not loud at all, same as stock almost and sound mild. The pipes are definitely louder when taking off though.

if they're like the Cobra shorts on my 900 there's just a screw under the baffles which you remove and slide the baffles out. I personally wouldn't be able to concentrate if there weren't any baffles in my pipes. they're bordering on too loud.

Ok, all removed. I have a Cobra FI200r installed. I've read that removing the baffles could create a rich condition. How much should I back the fuel settings down from where they are now? I'll post a sound clip if anyone wants.

Thanks,
Landon

If anything it should make it slightly (very slightly) leaner as the exhaust system is now somewhat more efficient. My V1.5K was just fine with the baffles removed (plugs looked good) but you might want to check yours, every bike is a little different.

You may see a drop in around-town mileage as removing the baffles can reduce the low-end torque some. To compensate a rider twists the throttle a little more hence the reduction. Hopefully your legislators there are bikers too! LOL

It actually doesn't sound alot louder than it already was. It does sound deeper now. I'll have to get someone to ride it by me to see how loud it is at speed. I don't notice a gain or loss of power, either from a stop or a roll. The bike is like riding a rollercoaster when you are cruising along @ 35 in 3rd and you nail the throttle. I've actually thought I was gonna fall off the back when I first got it.

Cool....glad you are pleased with it and the nice thing about it is if your ears take a beating on longer trips, you can always quiet it back down too. The V2K's can run 0-60 in just over four seconds so a rider has got to hang on for sure!

yup. +100 on the foam earplugs. It's heavenly to get off after a few hours riding around, pop them out of your ears and not have a headache or anything! :D plus i also think the pipes sound a little better with the plugs in...
