It was a fairly nice day today, although cloudy, so the hubby and I rode up to Estes Park. Lots of snow alongside the road, especially going through the Big Thompson River canyon, but the roads were in good shape. Just a bit wet in spots; no ice or gravel. I took a few pictures and posted them on my blog:

Hi Julie,

Looks like you had a good day. :) I love the Estes Park area. We have been there a couple of times but never on the bike. My wife's brother lives in Denver and we usually drive up to Estes Park when we visit him. I always wanted to take the bike on those wonderful roads leading to and from there. My favorite is the one heading east out of Estes Park that follows a river through the canyons. I can't remember the name of the road though. I hope I get to ride out there sometime soon. I also love hiking Rocky Mountain National Forrest. Here is a few Pics at a lake that we hiked up too while we were there a few years ago.

Thanks for the pics guys! It's always fun to do show n tell. :)

No riding here this weekend. Rain and heavy winds...and a bathroom project in progress is keeping me side lined. Gee....shouldn't I be putting up that tile instead of visiting here? Naaaaaaa!!! LOL :)

Scott, that is the Big Thompson Canyon ... a great ride, especially when devoid of cages. It seems like I always end up behind some flat-lander gawking around and they don't have enough sense to pull off the road to let the mile-and-a-half of traffic behind them go by.

However we are lucky in Colorado to have lots of options for riding, especially less traveled back roads and Scenic Byways. The Peak-to-Peak Highway is one of my favorite day rides. Another great ride starts in Fort Collins, through Poudre Canyon ... stop in Walden for lunch and end the day in Steamboat Springs.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check out those rides the next time I'm out that way.

You're right, Scott. Estes is really pretty. I love Rocky Mountain National Park. We're lucky; we have lots of great rides just a few minutes from Fort Collins. Like Tim mentioned, the Peak to Peak highway is wonderful. We often ride the Poudre canyon, and Rist canyon is also nice. Heading up northwest to Red Feather Lakes is a pretty ride, too. And there are gorgeous areas around Boulder. Lots to choose from. When spring comes, we're going to start doing weekend overnight rides with our next-door neighbors--places anywhere from three to five hours away, spend the night, then ride home the next day. Hot Sulphur Springs is going to be one of the first trips. After a day of riding, lounging in the hot springs sounds really wonderful.

Next time you're in the area, give a holler, Scott!

I sure will Julie! :)

I'm jealous of the roads you guys have access to. Nothing any where near that scenic around me. There are a few nice twisty roads close by that parallel some of the rivers in the area though. Maybe when I retire...in about 17 years 4 months...(but who's counting?) :-? ;-) I'll move out to CO and just ride all of the time to make up for what I've been missing.

Hey Julie, I spent the last Memorial Day weekend out in Ft Collins, and rode up the Poudre Canyon Road, tried to get to Cameron Pass but had to turn around because of a snowstorm, its a great road to ride on though, lots of twistys and even a ride thru a small tunnel in the side of a mountain. The Ft Collins area has alot to offer with all of the mountian roads and the nightlife in the Old Town, I know that I will be returning but at a later date, as there is allot more miles to point the bike down.

Hi Pilot. Welcome to the board!

Yep, we're pretty blessed. Fort Collins is a nice town in a beautiful location.

But the weather... Well, yesterday it was 65 degrees here. This morning it's snowing like mad. Guess I won't be riding today! :-(
