What I learned today is that some Roadburner Exhaust systems are actually manufactured by Hard Krome. I ordered what I thought were Roadburner's only to open the box and find the directions were for Hard Krome Strippers. I had bought the Roadburner's because of reading and watching youtube videos that they were supposed to be quieter than Hard Krome's. I ended up having to order Smartpartz baffles today to keep the neighbors off my lawn in a torch light mob scene to burn me and my bike.:toetap:

I think DG hardchrome and roadburner are owned by the same people. I have the roadburner street pro's on my 900, so far they have been a good pipe, no problems so far.

I bought the RB-402-8025 2 piece, 2.5 dai drag pipes. I found them to be way too loud on my VN900 Custom so I was thinking about getting the Smart partz baffles for them. I was wondering If they worked for you? Since they didn’t list my Pipes on their web site I contacted Smart Partz and they said they have 2 options for me…One was the End cap type using the existing Baffles and the other is the ones that go into the pipes. I’m guessing they replace the original baffles…. I was wondering which type did you go with. and Did they work? I apreciate any help you can give me!!

Thanks Tc…

I ended up going with the Smartpartz endcap baffles that slip into the end of the pipes. Even though there is a nut and bolt that appears to be holding the baffle in the Hard Kromes, after removing it, I still couldn't get the baffle out which makes me think they're spot welded [d*mn]. So I really had no choice except to go with the endcap type. [If you go that way, becareful when you slide them in the pipes that the baffles are lined up the way you want them. The high temp silicon gasket they want you to coat the flange with sets up in heart beat and can't be moved once in.] The endcap baffles sort of worked in that they took some of the 'bark' out off the Hard Kromes, but they're still louder than I prefer, or I should say, my neighbors prefer. I'm still trying to come up with another way to quiet them down..maybe fiberglass packing. But I'm kinda screwed because I can't get the end caps out meaning I'll have to disassemble the exhaust and try to 'pack' them from the other end at the joint between the header pipe and muffler. If you come up with something, let me know please because I leave for work around 6:00 AM everyday, and need to do something else for the neighborhood's sake.:toetap:
On the other hand, between the pipes and after opening up my air-box with a ******* mod, the bike definitely runs stronger with a much faster wind up to the redline in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. I'm taking it to the Wednesday night drags out here this week to see what I can get out of it.
Good luck.

Man, That’s good to know about the Silicon Gasket…. I wonder if it needs that or if I can get along without it?? I guess it probably
keeps them from rattling. I’ve got a 08 VN900 and what I would like to get rid of the most is the high pitch sound when going down the
freeway at 60 to around 80mph. Gives me a headache when I ride any longer than 20mi. Also a little off the Overall sound because I leave
around 6:00am also. Right now I coast it down the road before I start it!!! The thing I like about these pipes besides the look is the sound
when I take off at a light or something. I guess that is the “Bark” that you refer to. I wish it was just a little bit quieter though....
I think Ill try to get the Baffles out of mine before I do anything else.
If I can I’ll try wrapping them with the Muffler packing and see what that sounds like.
…I’ll let ya know if I have any success…….

I don't think this thread is too old to bring back to life a bit.

I did not use any silicon gasket maker when I installed the baffles on my 1600 Street Lites and haven't noticed any rattling or other issues. I also agree that these don't do a ton for quieting down the pipes. My neighbors haven't complained yet, but with the current weather I don't ride every day.

quiet in here. Well, not if you have ROAD BURNERS!

Put a set of Roadburner 3 inch longs on my 900. uh.... can you say LOUD!

Its quite incredible. I do need to dampen it just a tad so that maybe I wont get a ticket. Trying a couple things but I wanted LOUDER and I sure got it.

Load Road Burner pipes VN900 Classic LT

I have noticed that some municipalities require that a motorcycle be less than 80db, 24" from the end of the pipes, at idle.
Here are some interesting bit of "ammo" to use with the cops .....
Busy traffic - vacuum cleaner = 70dB
Loud music - Alarm clock = 80dB
Diesel truck - power mower = 90dB
Motorcycles - blow dryer = 100dB
Concert - crying child = 110db
Threshold of pain - thunder = 120dB

My question is ..... why does my bike have to be quieter than my girlfriend's hair dryer or my neighbor's lawn mower?????
