seat locks

Ok, I definitely win the prize for dumbest question of all time, but here goes..... What are my seat locks for? This is the first bike I've owned that actually had them, and the don't really lock anything, let alone the seat. What are they there for?

That's the thing....its not under the seat. Its under the tail fairing, looks like it supports it somehow but I'm not sure on how.
