So what I learned yesterday, the first ride of the season....after many, months of a Canadian winter are:

1) I HATE wind....I normally dis-like wind,(who doesn't) But yesterday riding at about a 30 degree angle all day, and playing bobble head...I discovered I really HATE wind! Thank goodness I put the FF in the top box, made it 5 km, before I switched out. LoL

2) Oil your chain....I'll say it again. OIL YOUR CHAIN! This Dufus went out and didn't oil it before she took off. The bike really doesn't like months old chain oil to run at hwy speed! Causes a vibration that rolls thru the bike, had me worried for a bit, till my brain remembered that feeling.

3) After having medical procedures done - Check to see if your bike still "fits you". My posture is different now. So my clutch hand/arm quit working have way thru my ride!! Thank Gawd for power shifting ;)

4) When you off load all your junk that you carry, put it BACK on the bike, before you go for a 500 km ride...You carried that stuff for a reason! LMAO!

Otherwise, a great day & a great ride....now time for some maintenance!

Maintenance!! Yeah, that's the ticket.
LOL! I WILL happen....just maybe not as soon as I'd like. :(

Gotta get the bike down to my buddys to do it all. So far with the weather, it's not looking promising for a while. Snowed again here Thurs & Friday. Today's 8C as a HIGH....BUUURRRRR.

That's nothing- it's 48*F this morning. Frikken 48!!! I actually had to turn the heat on. I never do that in late April. They say 60 for a high today but I doubt we get anywhere near that. I'm wondering if I need to bring the plants back in....

I used to ride Brit bikes, so I know away more than I want to about "routine" maintenance -- like finding the pieces that vibrated off and re-attaching them. The KZ440 is a doddle compared, but I commend you for keeping on top of things.

That said, like you, I've put up with two miserable early winters and late springs up here. I've booked my first ride for tomorrow out along Lake Erie. The temp might actually soar up to 60F.

A lot of it, was just spring fever to be out.....and I should know better! Grounded myself till I get the maint done! LMAO

Tried, and got a lot of it done last weekend, but ended up a partial cluster f'K....wrong oil, wrong brake pads.
The joys of dealing with someone you trusted. They had a bad day, and so did I because of it. LOL

Got all the "right parts" now. So today I was up early...Coffee'd, feed, it's 85 out already, and I'm ready to rock! Aaaaaand from no place it starts pouring rain so loud I can hear it! What's that saying? You wanna make God laugh, tell him your plans!

It's been pretty nice in these parts lately tho today is Tropical Storm Ana day. No matter, I've been taking the long ways to and from work. No real mileage tho.

Believe it o' not I did do something else to the bike. I added what's called The Stiffy Kit. It's a weight support kit for the tailrack where the trunk mounts. I never felt the need for one before as I rarely used the trunk but I'm finding more and more using it makes for an easier commute.

Don't get bent out of shape when the rear tire replacement person manages to crack your licence plate at a mounting hole . . .
Although they must have hit it hard to break it.
Things could for sure be worse than that.
My beautiful V Rod recently got ran over, and yes it is a total loss.
After the initial shock, I started to laugh at the whole situation.
And nobody was hurt, so onto new bike shopping for me.

A super "Ouch!" for your VRod - good that you weren't on it at the time and so weren't hurt! Hope that you enjoy your new ride - and mind those reversing trucks!
