I recently bought a 74 KZ400 and when bought it had the wrong speedometer cable but the cable was not hooked up. I got a new cable that is correct for the model and put it on. The odometer started working properly but the speedometer needle moves extremely slowly. As in if I am going 30 mph I have to be going that speed for a few minutes before it gets to thirty. Also when the bike is stopped the needle very slowly drops down. Assuming it was an issue with the speedometer assembly I ordered a used one. I installed this one today and it had the same issue but the odometer did not work. I saw another post on the forum discussing lubing the cable which I did not do. So my questions are, any ideas what the issue could be?, and secondly, what lubricant should be used for a speedometer cable?.
