I recently got a kz 700 a1 I believe it is a 1984. I got it from a friend and all it needs is a starter. I have been researching and found them to be quite expensive new. My question is what other bikes of the same era have this starter? I have found alot of used ones for kz's but never the 700a1. I have also found a rebuild kit for what looks to work on 650,750,450,900,700,and 1000's. This is why i'm confused if the kit is for all bikes I would think that for example if I picked up a kz650 starter it should be the same. Any input is greatly appreciated, I have the itch and want to get on the road asap.:)

KZ650, 700, and 750, at a minimum. Others may work also, I just don't have first hand knowledge of it.

Put a 750 cylinder block and pistons on it and you'll have a 750, or a 650 block and pistons and you'll have a 81+ 650 :)

Thank you all for your input. It was a big help. As soon as I pick up the bike and get her cleaned up I will post some pics.

A number of different model starters may well use the same rebuild kit. Rebuilding is probably the least expensive way to go.

A couple things to keep in mind when using the Kawasaki site to look up parts:

(1) It's not always correct (the info above is though)
(2) It tells you what bikes use the same part number, not what parts will fit.

The list above is of bikes that use the identical starter, it does not list all the bikes that have a starter that will interchange. IE the earlier 650's, or the 83-85 ZX750A (ok, so they're painted black) :)

Thanks Bill, but my friend I'm getting the kz from already had it rebuilt and it fried right away. So I am hoping the starter is just to far gone and there is not another issue. I am going to bench test it first before i buy one just in case it is the relay or some other problem. Thank you very much for your input.
