So only a 1977 stator cover will work on 77 models, Mounts to the engine match but the coil in the center has bolts showing from the outside with the 3 points of mount, where as the 78 up have the mounts for the coils on the inside..... Right???

Is there any way to upgrade this set up???? 77 are only limted in parts cause it was made so different. Can i just swap the guts and cover all together or its not as easy as i think it is........

Thanks!

Well :)

77 is more efficient and consumes less hp since it is only at full output when needed.
78 and up is permanent magnet alt that produces max power and consumes max hp all the time. Surplus power is converted into heat by the solid state reg/rec.

78 on is simpler with fewer things to go wrong.

I'd convert to the late style if it was me, I like things simple :)
