Well chaps the time has come to speak of many things ...sugar soap, ceiling wash and candle sticks....... AND of course the dreaded replacement of tyres!!

I own a vulcan 900 custom with standard rims and would like to know if any of you kind gentleman have had experience with the following?

will the following fit on the rear-
170/50/15 or
170/80/15

if they can what implications if any and what i was thinking will the 170/80/15 clear the rear mudguard, and will it help with the speedo problem?

I know the front is a bother with going over to 90/90/21 and fortuneatly i can get a 80/90/21.

thanks all

Here's a clip from the 100% fits the 900 thread. FWIW: I run the Metz 200/700-15 on my classic and love it.

================
Tires:

1 Metzeler 880 Marathon tires:
Custom - 90/90-21 front, 200/70-15 rear (slows speedo by 11% when new, most read 10% fast with new OEM tires)
2 Pirelli MT66 tires (170/80/15H rear, 130/90/16H front)
3 Dunlop D404
Custom - 80/900-21 front (stock OEM) - 180/70-15 rear (stock OEM), 170/80-15 rear
Classic/LT - 130/90-16 front (stock OEM) - 180/70-15 rear (stock OEM)
4 IRC GS-23
Classic/LT - 130/90-16 front, 170/80-15 rear (cuts speedo error in half, both tires are slightly wider than OEM)
5 Avon
Custom - 200/70-15 rear 'just' touches lower belt guard - may need to remove or fit spacer washers. Note: this tyre is recommended for 5.5" rim, OEM rim is 4.5".

A 700% aspect ratio, would make the sidewall like 56 inches (1400mm)

I read lots about the Custom rear wheel swaps prior to my own experience. There was one 900 owner that swapped to the 170/80-15 and he claimed it fixed the speedo/odometer error similar to the 200/70-15.

I personally went with the Metzler 200/70-15 and am getting close to replacement again after over 16K miles. I changed to the 90/90-21 front Metzler, but will be returning to the 80/90-21 when I change it this time. Every little gravel road makes noise when the tiny rocks go between my tire (tyre) and fender. I want more clearance again for my front tire.

BTW-no physical changes were performed on my bike with the 200 and 90 upgraded tires. All shields and guards are still in place.
