have a 1981 kz750 h2 ltd, engine makes rattle noise at low rpm in top of engine, there is no timing problems of valve problems, mechanic says the upper chain guide is making the noise. have manual to replace it but doesn't say how guide is held in place, any thoughts.

There is one in the cam cover, I think it's just pressed in , the front and rear just sit in slots in the block, so you have to take the head off to replace it.

Might want to use a stethoscope to verify the noise is not coming from the lower part of the motor. 650 and 750 fours have primary drive chains that tend to make noise at idle, while being quiet under load. Synching the carbs will generally quiet the primary chain.
