I have a KX125. I was told it is a 99 by the person I got it from. I recently found out that the plastic is off a previous year. That really didn't make any difference to me. Since the plastic isn't stock, I figured it was just swapped out for a different year. Now I need rear wheel bearings and fork seals. I have found out that in 97 the rear wheel bearings changed. 97-up take a 3 bearing setup rather than 2. I got the VIN# off the frame. I ran it on a VIN# site and it is coming back as a 95 Vulcan 1500. :-| I double and triple checked the number and it keep coming back that way. So now I am assuming that the bike is a 95 model. Does anyone know how to decode the VIN#? If the 10th digit in the VIN is the year, mine is "S". Can anyone help?

Thanks
Scott

I don't really remember the site. I came accross it in a search engine. It took a while to find one that had motorcycle VIN#s in its database.

I called a dealer earlier this week and they told me it was a 95. So I emailed the person I got the bike from. He replied saying he didn't know, that is what he was told. He told me that he knows the motor is a newer than 95 because they had a full race motor put in it. I guess when I need part, I am going to have to just pull the old ones out and match them up. Basically there is nothing stock on the bike and I guess it is pieced together from all different years.

Now I have another question. Does anyone know how I can get a year of a motor. I don't know if there is some kind of #s stamped on it somewhere or is there some part that would give me an idea at least?

the engine # will be on a pad beside the clutch cover or on the back of the motor under the carbs (hard to see)

Give me the frame and engine numbers, and I'll figure it out for you. PM me if you don't want to show the numbers here on the forum.
