Hi Captain Caos,

I just installed my hypercharger and I've got a couple questions for you since the instructions I got from Thunder were pretty sparce. And since Thunder makes the adapter, Kuryakyn has no installation instructions for the vn900 :(

I have a few extra parts as you can see in the picture I've attached. The kit came with 3 gaskets, I put one inbetween the adapter and the hypercharger, did you do the same thing? And should I be putting one anywhere else? My adapter kit came with 4 screws, the 3 used in step 8 of your instructions and one smaller one that doesn't seem to fit anywhere, did you get this too?

You say to cut into the vacuum line and insert the T fitting so you can attach it to the hypercharger, but since I have a Canadian model there is no vacuum line. There is a capped openning near the injectors where the vacuum line is supposed to come out of, should I take off this cap and run the vacuum line supplied to it from the hypercharger? Is this what the L shaped fitting is for? If not what's it for?

Right now I'm running it without the vacuum tube attached so the butterflies stay open all the time. The butterflies are also hitting the K&N airfilter when they're completely open, does your touch as well? Its not really a big deal since they can still move around, its just something I noticed.

Thanks for any help you can provide

Big.. Here is the link that I use to help me with the installation of the Hypercharger...
http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/f...-vn900-hypercharger-install-instructions.html..

As for the gasket and the rest of the parts. I also had the same parts left. I used one of the gasket and the rest I did not use. In regards of the vacuum hose. If you want the butterflies to open and close you need the vacuum hose install. If you go to the Kuryakyn site they sell an adapter for that. However it requires drilling a hole in the manifold. I don’t know how extended is your knowledge of motorcycle engines, but that is one thing that I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing.. Good Luck

There is a vac line that you can use. I have the same setup which I followed from Cap's info. Just look at it again, it's there. I think if you look at it from the side(right) it will be closer to the front of the bike and it is the only line that is of that size. You'll love it when you get it up and working. You'll also love the power boost, foxtail.

Ok, I'll explain why I'm a little confused on the whole Vacuum Hose thing. I've got a service manual and it shows the vacuum hose as being something totally different from what you guys are tying into. To make matters worse, there isn't even a vacuum hose on the Canadian version of the bike. The only thing I'm worried about is cutting the wrong hose and then having to get a new one or buy an attachment to reconnect it. I added a photo to clarify things.

The only hose that looks like it could be tapped into based on the pics Captain Caos posted is the Inlet Air Pressure Sensor Hose. It goes from the throttle body assembly forward to the sensor under the front of the gas tank. Is this the one you guys cut? I can't wait to get it working because having the butterflies openning and closing would be way cooler than just having them open all the time.

And what is that "L" shaped fitting for? Has anyone used this?

You're definitely right about the power boost foxtail. I rode into the mountains near my house yesterday and I had plenty of power to really gun it, even at speeds over 100km uphill. :) This and the pipes are a HUGE improvement to the bike. I love em.

Thanks guys

I've figured it out. It is the Inlet Air Pressure Sensor Hose that gets tapped into. It was a real pain in the @$$ to put the T fitting in the Air pressure hose since its just a little bit smaller than the hose provided by Thunder.

Now that the jobs complete I'm loving it even more. The butterflies look so nice now that they move with the throttle. :D

Has anyone here that has installed a hypercharger, had a problem with the fi warning light? After the install as per captains wonderful photos, the fi light comes on after the bike is warm and at idle or low [email protected]#? But then turns off at higher speeds with more air flow. I've got a 900 classic with tfi box, and hard krome 3" pipes. The bike runs great but the light is a bit of a worry? Any help or suggestions would be great. CHEERS

I just realized I may have missed something in the instructions. What did you do with the idle adjustment knob? I don't see any instructions as to where it goes other than you said let it hang there????

OK One last question. I sat on my bike tonight and put my feet on the highway pegs and looked to see how much room I had between my leg and the stock air cleaner. So the closest area my leg is to the cleaner is the top rear corner close to my knee. I can only put two fingers width between my leg and the cleaner as my leg goes down toward my foot the distance becomes greater so I'm curious just how much further out does the hyper charger stick out from the bike than the stock cleaner? Two finger widths is about an inch and a half I guess.

I'm not sure exactly how much more it sticks out. I never did an exact measurement, but it does stick out more than the stock one. The inside of my calf touches it when I have my feet on the floorboards. Its noticable at first, but once you've ridden with it for a few weeks you won't even notice it anymore.

This is my concern, i dont have floor boards and im 6'4", i really love the looks of the hypercharger, but am leaning towards a BAK because the of leg clearance issues. Anyone of similar height with a custom installed yet?

Thanks

C law,

I've got the classic and put on the standard hypercharger, and i'm 6'3. I've got no clearance issues at all. The standard hypercharger is thinner than the pro model, so this helps. I don't think it sticks out much more than stock. The 900 has no use for the wider pro model other than asthetics. I personally like the look of the standard more. I think even if I had pegs I wouldn't have any problems.

Sorry I haven't been on in a while to answer questions about my Hypercharger install instructions...I've been off doing my military obligation.

It sounds like BIG BRI has been on top of the question and answer thing!! Great job!! Couldn't have answered the questions better myself.

The Hypercharger sure makes a big difference over the stock Air Cleaner. Putting on after market pipes...such as the Cobra Slashdowns and the Cobra Fi2000R Fuel Management Module really opens things up and turns the bike into a rocket ship. Plus it sounds great too!

Captain,

I just finished my install of the Hypercharger Pro and the Fuel Pak from V&H. I want to tell you how much I appreciate the post you did with the pictures. I had my laptop with me and just followed your instructions, and IT WAS EEEEAAASSYY! I did call a friend at V&H tech support on the fuel pak to make sure I was doing eveything correctly. The fuel pak was fairly easy as well. If anyone needs help with the wiring of the fuel pak just call and ask for Derek.

Here are a couple of pictures.

A close up.

The fuel pak is velcroed behind the battery compartment. (center)

I have floor boards, I am 5'11" with a 30" inseam.

Floor boards.

Highway pegs.

I was going to have the stealership install these, but then I ran across your post. The money I saved nearly paid for a new Mustang seat, which I will have next Tuesday.

Thanks again.

Captain Chaos

We all appreciate the great job you did with the step by step instructions of the Hypercharger. In my case this is my first bike, so I was a little apprehensive about taking it apart. Thanks to guys like you, I was able to make not only this MOD but several others … Keep up the good work…

Bike stalls after Hypercharger install

Hi All,

I have a quick question. I installed aftermarket pipes and the FI200 fuel modual and the bike ran great. I just installed a hypercharger and now the bike stalls when I slow down in 1st gear. I tried the idle adjustment with no luck. My friend told me it was because its roughly 30 degrees here and that is what is doing it. I told him I didn't think so. Does anyone have any ideas. My bike is a 2006 Vulcan LT.

Thank you,

Bill

Try adjusting the pot settings on the Fi2000R fuel modual. I believe the factory settings are 4-2-0. However, I found out (at least on my bike) if the first setting is 2 or lower than the bike will tend to stall in first gear. I played around with the settings for a while and eventually ended up with 4-2-2. I had Cobra Slashdown pipes, Hypercharger and the Fi2000R. I could be wrong, but I think your fuel modual settings need to be adjusted and that should take care of the stalling problem.
Good Luck!
