Today I was riding, when I stopped I noticed some oil on the right side of the bike. I found that the oil was leaking from the air cleaner. I took the cover off of the air cleaner and the oil was comming into the air cleaner from a hose that is connedted to the lower portion of the air cleaner. The hose goes to the cylinder head.

Why would oil be coming into the airc cleaner?

When I noticed this I parked the bike to call for the dealer to come take it to the shop for service.

has the oil ever been changed in it?? there are 2 drain bolts for the vulcan 2000! you will notice in the manual that there are 3 listings for the quantity of oil. you need to drain both plugs, change the filter then fill it to the spec. for full change. my guess is that it was overfilled on the last change, and it will blow out the air cleaner. i only know this because my dad has a 2000 and the same thing happened. the tech at one dealer didn't even know how to perform an oil change on the 2000 yet!? finally called one who did and got it straight. hope this helps...happy cruising on the torque monster!

A friend of mine at work had this same problem. His bike was brand new and was almost due for the 600 mile service when he noticed it. He took it in to get it looked at and they accused him of putting too much oil in it. He had to argue with them for a while on why he would put any oil in a brand new motorcycle with less than 600 miles on it. They finally fixed it and did the 600 mile service but didn't even clean the oil that had dripped onto the motor.

It is a new bike with 580 miles on the engine. I have not needed to put any oil in the engine since I picked it up from the dealer.

I had the dealer come and pick up the bike and take it to the shop. I should have an answer from them on Tuesday or Wednesday. I will let you know what the problem is and what the dealer is going to do to fix.

And they **** well better clean all of the oil off of the bike!

How much oil?

I just purchased a 1999 1500 classic. The oil volume on the sticker next to the fill cap is 3.5 ltr. If I'm assuming correctly this amount of oil also oils the transmission. Is this correct?
Thanks, Gene
