After sitting for about 2 weeks (I now, along time to not be riding), my 2003 Vulcan 800 classic started with a loud tapping (sounds like a valve tap) that went away with an oil change, but seems to be coming back. Has any one else experienced this. Bike has 5000 miles and has had oil changes 3 times.

The kawi specs call for a valve adjustment at around 6000 mi. A little noise is normal. If you don't hear any that's when to worry. Ask your dealer if it sounds normal, then have them check the valve clearance.(need to do it anyway). How loud is it?

Its pretty loud at first and then quiets down some. Will take it in. It just seemed unusual so soon.

Take it in an let them tell you if it's normal ,or fine another 800 around an see how it sounds. If or when you have them checked an or adjusted you'll have to see how they sound afterwards. Without hearing the bike it makes it kind of hard to tell if there is a problem.
