Hey, I'm 47 years old, and wish I had my '82 GPZ 550 back that I purchased new. Now years later, kids grown I find myself commuting 40 miles one way to work (at least in the summer) on my old 440. I've been looking for a "standard" bike and spotted the Ninja 500R. How is it compared to my old GPZ for power, handling, torque, etc? I really liked the old 4 cylinder scooters of the 80's but need something newer and reliable. How is it for smoothness? (I'm gettin' old). Thanx.

lol, i've ridden both and the ninja will smoke your old 82. CC meaning has really changed over the years.

I'm 45, been out of riding for a while. Bought a new Ninja 500, love it! Put several 150 to 200 mile trips on it and one over 500 miles already. No problems what so ever. Very happy with it. When I took the 500 mile one, had one friend on a Shadow 750 and one on a GoldWing. Had no problems staying with them. Some corners they had trouble staying with me when I was leading.
