What year is the bike? On some models they have reserve lighting device that turns on the headlight when the engine starts. It's a small black box usually on the left side of the bike under a side cover. It automatically switches from high to low beam if your out driving and loose either filiments. If low goes out, it will run high beam at lower voltage so on coming drivers are not having your high beam in their eyes.
I have an 1982 GPz1100 B2 with this system and got tired of the headlight coming on when starting the engine. I got out the wiring diagram, mounted a toggle switch and bypassed some of the functions. Now when I start the engine, I get a warning of a headlight out on the warning panel, after the engine has started, I flip the toggle to the "On" position and the headlight comes on. I still have a choice of high or low beam when driving.
Post back if you need help in figuring out the wiring...........
