ZX 9 Will not START!! PLEASE HELP!!

My 1997 ZX 900R was working fine. I parked it for the night. Then tried to start it the next morning and nothing. No noise nothing. Everything else works except for the horn too. When you first turn the key to the on position the instrament panel lights up. As soon as I hit the start button the headlight comes on but nothing else no noise at all.
I've checked the Batter Duh! That is new and reads fine. I've checked the engine kill switch and starter button and those are fine. I also checked the sidestand kill switch and it is in working order. When you bump start it, it fires right up and runs normal until you turn it off then you get nothing. I am fairly intellegent when it comes to bikes but I have never seen or heard of this typ of problem. Oh and the fuses are good too. The whole headlight coming on only after you attemt to start completly baffles me too. I don't think it is a wiring problem either. If someone out there knows anything else please let me know before I go and spend top dollar for something rediculus. Thanks.

QKENUF4U is a mechanic by trade and went to formal training and as for me.... I read alot and tinker alot... School of hard Knocks.

Get yourself checked in your local community college occupational center and they should have some auto shop classes. Great place to start.
like adam i have tinkered for over 27yrs with bikes/cars. always fixed whatever i could myself. had a bike accident back home that almost killed me in 2001, figured out that i hated sitting in front of a computer drafting the same **** everyday, and decided i needed to make MYSELF happy. so i sold all my bikes, enrolled into MMI and came back to phoenix (land of year round riding) :D
Thanks Qkenuf4u

Thanks to you as well. Sorry about that. I will post the problem and solution just as soon as I get it out of the shop. I and the mechanic both agreed by just hands on that it was the starter relay inside the junction box but wont know %100 sure utill the computer is hooked up to it. But thanks to eveyone who has helped out. I've been doing this stuff for a while aswell but the whole horn not working in conjuction had me baffeled.
