HELP ! I have a 1987 Ninja GPX 750R F1 15K miles In very good condition but had sat for 2 years replaced the clutch and slave cylinder with OEM parts, changed the fluid and OEM rebuild kit for the clutch master cylinder. It seems to have started after I rebuilt the master cyclinder. When I bleed the system I have 2-3 mm of free play at the lever and clutch works well, but as I test drive the free play disappears and the clutch starts releasing almost at the end of release point and in a short period of time the clutch starts to slip. If I release some fluid at the slave cyclinder I will get the free play back and the clutch works great. Any help is appreciated I need to get this bad boy on the street.

On hydraulic brakes there is a tiny bleed hole in the bottom of the fluid reservoir and i am sure on hydraulic clutches as well. This hole can become clogged and not allow pressure to bleed down so the brakes will grab and not release. I imagine that is what you are experiencing with your clutch. As pressure builds the clutch fails to release and will produce a slipping effect.

Remove fluid cover and have a look. If you see a tiny hole take a tip cleaner or something like a pin and poke thru it to clean out any clog. I have had to do this on brake systems as the brake over time will start to grab on its own accord and will at times even lock the wheel up as it did on my brother's bike. He got so frustrated with it after cleaning out the fluid several times that he sold the bike. It was only later that i discovered the cause of the problem.

Paul, thank you for the feedback I have been patiently waiting for someone who may have experienced the same issue. I completely understand what you are speaking about however the clutch master cyclinder has just a single hole. I have rebuilt the master cylinder with OEM parts and compared it to the front brake master cyclinder to compare the operation of the two. I just don't know what I am missing. I loose the lever free play in a very short ride. The only part that has not been changed is the clutch hydraulic hose. Well the clutch master cyclinder has not been changed just rebuilt. I also have not found any leaks.

Well I have tried about everything I could. Dissembled and re inspected everything (Clutch Master Cylinder) (Slave Cylinder) (Clutch) (Clutch throw out shaft) and re bled the system with a Mighty Vac. Slight free play in lever and great clutch operation until a short ride and then the lever free play disappears and the clutch will start to slip slightly, If I pull over and release just a bit of fluid from the Slave Cylinder bleeder I can make it home with no slippage.
I bit the bullet and ordered a brand new OEM Clutch Master Cylinder ($) and and new custom hose from core moto.
I have my fingers crossed, if the trouble continues it with be out for garbage Monday.

The new hydraulic line from CoreMoto resolved the issue. Even though I had
fully inspected the stock line and there was no bulging or visual
compromise. The hydraulic clutch line is not even a hose for the full
length. It is a hose up by the master cylinder then converts to a 1/8 steal
line inside the fairing down along the frame and then converts back to a
hose to go into the slave cylinder. The new custom clutch line came in
quickly and the new master cylinder was back ordered but by the time I
called to cancel the order on the master cylinder ($ 250.00) it was about to
ship and a 20% restocking fee, so I have a brand new master cylinder.
Unfortunately since then I have developed a gas leak that appears to be #3 & #4 carb float bowl o ring seals. I had all four carbs apart once
to clean and once to install the stage 3 Dyno Jet kit so I ordered 4 new
float bowl O-Rings seals that should resolve that issue.
Keeping my finger crossed.
