Yep, put power right on the pump and nothing. I'm 99.99% sure the pump is the problem so I went down to my dealer and ordered one. You're correct $230 not cheap! But at least I know I'll have a pristine fuel system once this thing actually starts! Thanks again to everyone for all your help!

If it is the pump you shouldn't have any trouble finding one, they used the same pump for the A model and E for years and years.... I just replaced one last week on a 1998 Classic with a pump off of a very old A model..worked like a champ...
Thanks Z. Though I'm not a big fan of used parts. Especially electrical ones. Figured I'd bite the bullet and spring for a new one.

Fuel pump in and it started!!! Having a little trouble getting it to idle. Battery died so now its charging and hope to try again in a bit. Any suggestions? Is that plastic idle nob the only adjustment I have?

Hello, I think I may have a similar problem with my Vulcan. I don't hear my pump priming when I turn the key on like usual and when I check to see if there is any fuel going to the carb the hose appears to be empty.

When you applied power directly to your pump did you do it straight from the battery or somewhere else. Also which wires did you apply it to?

Patrick

I've checked when trying to start still not pumping. Is there a wire diagram for the circuits somewhere. I've found lots of parts diagrams but not really anything references to a wire diagram.

To test pump:

1. On the pump harness, connect black and black/yellow together and put to 12v.
2. Connect green to ground.
3. Pump should run.

Be sure and disconnect pump connector from main harness before doing this.
Also, you should start your own thread as it is hard to keep track of threads buried amoung old threads.

Post back with your results.

Well unfortunately the wires going to my pump are black, black/yellow, red, yellow. I'm assuming that the ground is red or yellow and the blacks should go the pos.

I'll keep looking for similar pumps and will post back when I do have results.
