82 KZ1000 ltd give'n me trouble...

now that I got my gpz1100 in the garage, the KZ1000ltd's been acting up, I think it's mad that it knows it's getting replaced.

well anyway. what happens is, it runs all good and normal on the street, but when I get on the freeway and start haul'n arse, it will start to lose power, to the point where I can barely hold 40mph...so I exit off the freeway and it clears up.
it almost acts like when a bike goes from on to reserve, but last few times I did this I pulled over and yanked the fuel hose, and it was peeing out gas, so I dont think it's a fuel issue. My next step was replacing the battery, since it was getting weak, but that did not seem to help. Im thinking the next place to look at is the coils...mebey they are heating up and starting to act up.

any other idea's/things I should look for? it's just strange that it never does this on the street, only on the freeway where I'm past 1/2 throttle for long distances. it also does it every time Im passing a big rig! I think the ltd has it out for me!

Those are pretty much the same symptoms my bike was showing - I'd get out on the highway and it felt like it was labouring... not getting the fuel. I couldn't keep highway speeds I had to travel the back roads. it worked nice at 40 mph but much over that and it started to miss all the time.

I found out my floats were way off and the bike was running obscenely lean. Might be something to check out.

I was going to suggest float level myself or maybe an obstruction. The bowls not getting enough fuel to keep you at higher speeds would do exactly what your describing, get the floats out and check that the passage is clear for fuel to flow and then adjust the levels.

you guys were right, I tore the carbs apart last night, and low and behold there was crud on the screens of the needle valves. also the fuel filter on there was looking a bit sad and crusty, so I replaced it, cleaned it all, and rode it to work today with no problems...seems to be starting in the morning way quicker as well
