Went on a 240(ish) mile ride through the mountains today with about 9 or 10 rocket ships and 4 other cruisers.
1st off....GEEZ those things are fast! Streetbikes are ridiculous quick through the twisties.
2nd...While trying to catch up I had a baby fawn jump out in front of me bucking and kicking like a little bull while rolling along about 65-70 mph...
It all happened so fast. I remember seeing it jump up on my right side, I got all over the brakes and ducked behind my "deer-stopper" handlebars:tongue: , and remember seeing it pass just infront of my front tire. It was so close I could hear the noises it was making.
I didnt actually strike it with my bike but caught its rear end with my left foot that was still on the peg!
Came from the right, hit it with my LEFT foot!!
WHEW! That was close!
Oh, and im pretty sure it peed on me as it went by...LOL
The guy behind me said it did kind of a 180 in the road and they thought i got it with my bike. Crazy...

Lots of times I have had deer stop on the road and watch me as I approached. Yesterday twin fawns ran across the road in front of me. I saw the first one well before I got close but from experience I always slow expecting a 2nd or 3rd deer to run across. I wasn't disappointed this time when the second one came bounding out of the woods.

I slowed again when a hen turkey crossed the road with her little one trailing behind.

Today the rains returned ... groan.

You're one lucky grumpy! I remember reading bike/deer collision stats from Minnesota several years ago. I can't recall the percentage of those collisions that resulted in rider fatalities, but it was VERY high.

Don't pull out your horseshoe!

Same here. Riding home on backroads saturday evening I saw something up ahead a good ways and as i got closer n' closer i realize its a deer standing in the middle of my lane staring at me. I slow roll to a stop about 30 feet from it, and then it suddenly jumps as if it just then noticed me and runs across the road and off into the woods on the left. Stupid animals.

Here is the excerpt from that article I read about fatality rates (Motorcycle Cruiser magazine, April 2004):

About 150 Americans a year die as a result of 700,000 collisions with deer, which reportedly cause over a billion dollars in damage. A disproportionate number of those fatalities are motorcyclists. The Wisconsin DOT site devoted to the deer problem says that while only 2% of car-deer collisions were fatal to humans, 84.9% of the motorcycle-deer crashes involved human fatalities.

You sure it wasn't you that peed a little.
:stopit:

Lol, yeah, I was hoping this thread was going to be more about where to come for some venison steaks... darn.

Do you have a highway bar? How is your leg/foot feeling?

Foot is good. If I had a highway bar I would have been writing about how "I DID T-bone Bambi"
