all depends on how bad it seized up. personally i would pull it down and have the cylinder checked. if its a steel bore then you can bore it to the next size and put in new
piston
rings
pin
bearing
and be good to go for a long time
if its NIKASIL then you can
run a ball hone thru it and put in
piston
rings
pin
bearing
and be good to go again
if you scored the cylinder and its nikasil then its replacement time (unless your larryC on here) ;)
if you scored the cylinder and its a STEEL sleeve then you will have to see if the bore job job will take the scratch/gouge etc. away
being its a 01 im betting on nikasil plated cylinder which is good for you
oh and ya need to figure out WHY it seized on ya
over heated
no oil
not ENOUGH oil
air/fuel mixture wrong at carb
air leak at carb
air leak at crank seals
etc...

Lost the motor in my boys 03 85 this weekend. Heard ugly noise when I kicked it over...bearings toast
Crank is origional so I feel I got good life out of it, so today I got
crank (hot rod)
bearings and seals
piston kit and gaskets
my cylinder is fine, luckily I caught the noise and the bike was not ridden so it didnt lock down and kick out bearing fragments
As stated above check the cylinder for scores, if it locked down it could have been crank or piston, if the piston seized your cylinder may be trashed. Eye ball the cylinder if you have any doubts bring the cylinder to a decent shop they should be able to give you a go, no-go for use as a play bike...
