Need help in setting idle the car. I just purchased an 02 Lakota Sport and a Bayou 220. They have been setting for some time, so they are running a little rough. I pulled the carb on the Lakota and completely cleaned and soaked it in carrb cleaner. Blew out all the passages and reassembled. It runs smoother but it idels extremely fast. I backed the idle knob off completely before I reinstalled it so that I could start from scratch. The only adjustable "jet" I see is the "pilot air screw" which I set back to where I found it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also would like to buy a used service manual if anyone has one.

Mike

hello bucstreak as a rule of thumb take the air screw all the way in and back out 1 1/2 turns back out and thats a starting point for adjustments on a carb after a fresh cleaning/rebuild and also check to see if you have ne vacuum leaks around the carb use carb cleaner to check spray it around and see if itll die out and if so u have a leak find out what happen repair and recheck hopes this helps you out a little -corey-

well yes you can leave the carb on to adjust it just have to cut down a small screw driver and put some tape on the end of it so you can turn it while running to get it set correctly you can tell when its set right itll idle good and start up easy good luck let us know how it comes out for ya -corey-

So far no luck, once the bike warms up it idles extremely fast. Adjusting the pilot screw had no effect. The idle adjustment is backed off completely, the only thing that slows the engine is to use the choke. A slight choke adjustment and the RPM's drop. My understanding of this type of carb is that when you choke it you are adding fuel. So I am completely baffeled.

Thanks for any help, Mike

well have you checked your valve lash maybe when the valves get hot they change but you definitly sure you do not have a air leak on the carb or intake all rubber componets ok no cracks or loose bolts and have you sprayed carb cleaner around the carb and intake to .and the orings are ok and put in there correct places. sounds like if you can turn the air fuel screw and no changes in idle you have a air leak some where in the intake system good luck let us know what u come up with
