Hi
I have a 96 kawasaki vn 800 classic and am having problems with the petrol coming out my air filter while riding. I have investigated and replaced the needle valve and stripped the carb an cleaned them. The petrol is clean an so is the tank. It ran fine for about 70 miles then the same thing happened again with petrol pouring out my air filter. Any suggestions as to what can be causing this please any advice is welcomed.

When engine petrol is pouring out of your air filter, it is usually a symptom that your oil level is too high i.e., overfilled beyond the high oil mark when running.

Check your engine oil level to see if it is between the Low and High marks when cold. Remember, multi-viscosity oil like 10W-40 expands and thickens as your bike gets to a stable operating temperature. If you can not determine the current oil level (with the bike level), then it would be good to drain all of your oil, change the oil filter, and fill as recommended less 1/2 quart or -.5 Liter.

Go slow filling and re-check your fill mark after your bike is 3/4 filled with oil e.g., if a 4 Liter bike, then after the 3rd Liter. This usually solves the 'blow-back' oil problem through your air filter(s) etc. Good luck.
