Today was the day of the convention right? Anyone have any websites or pics of the new models? Or do we have to wait a week or so for the dealers to spill the beans?

Also on a side note. Do you think that the value of the 07's will now drop? Do you think b/c the new models came out i can knock down the price on private and market sales?

the 07 models should be cleared soon , to make way for 08 models ..
Like i said above, I know I'll be able to knock down the price at public dealers. Do you think i can use that to my advantage for private sellers as well.. Or should i just stick with the fact that it's late in the season and i would be " getting this bike off their hands"

I just read on Motorcycle News that the zzr 1400 is going to be completely unchanged as far as the body goes. But the engine/intake/exhaust will be changed a lot to compete with the new hayabusa. They said more info would be available thursday night

If the show is today, I imagine there will be some sort of curtain drop and we might be seeing some cool pics this evening.... yeah!! IMO a new 250 changes the market for the old 250 with all but the folks that are cultish about their little Ninja. There are some on ninja250.com site salivating over the prospect of being able to pick up another bike for even less than before.

You should be in a great place for a winter market. Wait for it to get cold and especially around Christmas. Keep your eyes on Craigslist, sales ads, Cycle Trader and anything else you might use locally for that sort of thing. Local dealerships sometimes have bikes for sale on bulletin boards.

The winter time presents the best chance for a buyer to get the best deal IMO with sellers looking to upgrade next riding season, no place to store the bike, they figure they can't afford the bike, credit card bills after Christmas and so forth. There is also less interest in bikes out of the peak riding season. One major tip, have cash in hand... as they say money talks and "something" else walks.

haha well said xeon.. I may not wait THAT late in the year.. I will probably buy if something good pops up around mid oct.. This way i can ride for a month then house it and just tinker with it.

But i will def have cash in hand.. If you whip out a wad of 100's and say it's all i got.. and it's 500$ less then what they want.. chances are the green with talk.

You'd be suprised what you can find new in Dec/Jan at the dealerships. Last year I seriously contemplated a new '06 ZX10-R for 30 minutes in the dealership with my wife standing next to me very unhappy at the prospect of my buying the litre SuperSport only because it was $8,200 OTD. I asked the sales manager why it was so d@mn cheap and he said, "...it's off season and I have to make room for the 07's...". I didn't buy it because my wife knew all of the questions to ask based on what I've told her in the past...

Wife: Do you need that much power?
Me: No.
Wife: Do you like the riding position?
Me: No.
Wife: Do you really need two motorcycles?
Me: No.
Wife: Can you afford the insurance?
Me: If I don't eat breakfast or lunch.
Wife: Can you afford to take me out to dinner when I want to if you get it?
Me: If you pay.
Wife: Do you want me to kick your @ss?
Me: We can go now.

And seasons really do affect private sale prices too. Even here in SoCal prices for bikes vary up to $1k between seasons! I have a friend who flips bikes; he picked up a couple of f4i's for $3.5k & $3.8 in Jan and sold them for $4.3 and $4.7 respectively in June. And this is the place where we don't even have seasons! Imagine trying to sell a bike when it's 17* outside with 5' of snow.

If you're thinking of picking a bike up for only month's worth of riding, it might behoove you to wait 'til Dec or Jan because prices will drop. Is a month's riding before storage worth more than the hundreds of dollars you can potentially save?

Hmm...decisions, decisions...

Haha i love the fight with the wife... hahahaha.
You make some sense thoe. My only issue is that im NOT trying to buy new. I'm new to riding and i want to find something that i can drop and not cry about it b/c my fairing is not scratched.
I will def be on my toes if anything comes up any time soon... It's great thoe.. I've seen a 06 green kawi ninja 500r w/ 600miles on it go from 5K sales price to 4K in a matter of a month.. I'll give that guy another 3-4 weeks and then see if i can really drop him down. If he gets near 3K i may pull the trigger... Even thoe lime green isn't my fav color in the world ( Dream bike black and red). Non the less, a deal is a deal.

The EX500 is dead. I just can't see a reason for calamari to buy it now.

If you're a new rider facing the usual matra of don't get a supersport right out of the gate what are you going to get? A nice retro looking EX500 or a sexy smooth looking 250, 650 or Versys? Sorry 500 - you loose. Too bad too b/c its a great bike. Just fuggly.

btw - anybody want to buy my EX500? :)

I don't fully agree, as i'm sure many people won't. The 500r isn't dead, it's a great bike if you don't want to chug on the 250, but don't want to fly and die on a 650.
I WILL however agree with you on the fact that they are FUGLY bikes.. =/
Who knows where i will end up..

Think the new 250r's design made it more safe to travel on the freeways? Or will it still be tossed around? By it's spec sheet it got better front brakes, better wind resistance, and of course, a exterior make over... The same speed i believe..

Remember that thread that I started a couple of months ago mentioning that the 500R might be leaving the line-up because the local dealership that I go to didn't see it in the June order sheet and didn't know why? I think someone found a pic of the '08 color and the thread died.

Tweek: your thoughts are exactly what every customer that wants to enter the streetbike world will think (right down to wondering if anyone would like to buy their current 500  ). I still hold firm that the 650R was and is meant to be the updated, FI, fully-faired replacement for the 500R.

So what your saying is that the 500R is useless in the lineups on the 250, 500, 650?
Now a days it's hard to really find 500 supporters.. Either they are 250 fanatics or they own a 650 and up.
I can go out and buy the new 250r, and for the same price i can find a nice used 06 500r ( private seller). Is the new 250 worth the money or think it's better to stick it out and go with a used ( uglier, haha) 500?
