Hey ya'll, I'm AROD and I have a question concerning my 2002 kawasaki eliminator bn125. Does anybody out there know where I can find a good quality 16/42 sprocket and chain set-up? I have been looking on the internet for about 6 hours total and I can find the rear sprocket (42 teeth) from PMP but I can't find a 16 tooth front sprocket and chain. I figured it would be cheaper in a kit but I don't know? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, need a little more top end is the reason I'm wanting to change the sprockets from 15/46 to 16/42 and my chain is stretched and has come off 2 times. I have been very lucky that the chain hasn't gotten caught up in anything and I don't want to take a chance of it getting caught up since my 6 and 8 year old children love to ride with me. Thanks for the help in advance, I know I won't be lucky the 3rd time the chain comes off. Don't won't to wreck, especially with such "precious cargo" on the back. Thank ya'll and GOD Bless! AROD

That's all I could find too and they seem to be very proud of there products! $$$ LOL! I figure I'll have to order from them, I saw them on E-BAY, I think. I guess I'll just message them and see how much, how long it will take, etc. The only problem was I remember seeing a $60.00 shipping charge which I think is a bit "overkill"! The parts don't weigh much so I'm going to see if I can work some magic and see if I can find them somewhere closer but like you said, only place you could find them and the only place I could find them so I may have no choice. I just need a little higher top end, lower RPM's and a safe product for me and my children! Can't put a $ sign on the safety of my children and there chains are supposed to have virtually no stretch. Would taking out 2 links on my chain be safe and would it even fit? That is about 5/8ths of an inch if I remember correctly. My chain is at the very back of my bike, can't tighten it anymore. My Eliminator only has barely over 7,000 miles on it. Got it for $500.00 so I can't complain! Thank You for taking time out of your life to help me, that means a lot to me Bro! I wont spend much more time looking since it seems like there is no use. LOL! Let me know about shortening my chain although I know it needs to be replaced per the mileage it has on it, just want my kids to be safe. Thanks again, this is I think the 3rd time we have spoken on here. Maybe one day I will be as smart as you are, that's what I'm working on anyway. Thanks again, AROD

lol thx for the compliment... lol...

as for the chain what makes ya think it needs replaced with 7k on it ?? is it an O-RING chain ? if not then i can understand why you think its junk (cause it prob. is)

as for removing links from the chain.. youll have to wait till you have the new sprockets before doing that just to make sure ya can take some out...

personally you need to do chain/sprockets all as a set... i hate just replacing chains at work but im not the boss ..... found lots of chains for your bike... if ya can get a better name brand (D.I.D, renthal etc) and just keep it cleaned/lubed/adjusted and it will last a long time on that little bike...

i dont think shipping will be bad from overseas.. ive ordered a few things from the UK/japan etc and never got hit with anything crazy shipping wise...

i just looked at the PMP site.. DO NOT USE ALUM SPROCKETS unless you like buying then all the time... you need steel if you want it to last ....

you could also look for people that make custom sprockets.. i have a guy here that makes them for dirtbikes but im betting he could make you one too.. i would have to ask my boss about his priceing...

Don't want to talk money out of anyone's pocket, but I just had Z1 put together a chain and sprocket kit for my KZ1000 Frankenbike. Price was good, service excellent, and they took the time to even ask about riding style and aggression off the line. I spent a lot of time screwing around trying to put together the same set - I wish I'd just ordered it from them in the first place.

QKENUF4U, your welcome on the compliment, just being honest, just the way I was raised down here in the South. I'm planning on changing both sprockets and the chain, it is a non o-ring chain and is almost at the max mileage according to the manual. The dude in the UK wants $60 just to ship the parts and another dude from the UK won't even ship to the US??? Some sort of MORON or something like that! LOL! I'm going to call JT this morning and see about them since there is no way to order parts unless you call them??? I find that weird as Hell but I don't own the business so I have no say so! LOL! JT has the front sprocket (16t) listed which is the only place I've found it. PMP has the rear sprocket but can't get the front sprocket so I'll be ordering it from them. Don't worry, I have a lot of common sense and am getting steel or PMP has a "HARD COAT" so I'll be getting that one! LOL! After the sprockets get here I will know what to do about the chain situation and can finally get that taken care of. This could take a few weeks! At least it will be safe and ready to ride with no worries. Thanks for the help Bro! If you run across anything in a kit (16/42) just let me know, otherwise it is gonna come from at least 2 different places. As long as I get the correct parts I'm HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY! I'm sure I'll talk to you again soon as long as that's OK with you Bro! Knowledge is the key to staying safe, alive and to life in general! Later Bro! AROD

I appreciate the tip Cynjut but sadly to say Z1 doesn't offer anything for my little cruiser. I'll keep them in mind for another bike down the road though! Thanks for the help Bro! AROD

Although Z1Enterprises kinda specializes in vintage motorcycles, they might be able to help.
Try emailing them & include the pertinent info: bike model, chain & sprocket info, and oem part numbers from Kawasaki.com might help too.

Chain adjustment. Are you adjusting the chain as per the factory manual or owner's manual?
Some riders don't do it right & end up w a tight chain, so it gets stretched.

Edit: according to the diagrams at Partzilla, stock is 15T Fr & a 46T Rr. Are you sure 16T/42T will work? ... I'm thinking you may lug the engine? Just a suggestion without doing any checking, perhaps you could go w a 15T/42T?
(note: a 1T increase at the Fr ~= a 2 or 3T decrease at the Rr).

I did not know that 1 T Fr. = 2-3 T Rr. Thanks for the info on that. I am tightening the chain per the manual, I put it on it's stand and even use a chain alignment tool just to make sure that the rear wheel is as perfectly straight as possible. I just got the bike in December and have put about 300 or so miles on it. The chain was stretched when I got it. It has came off on me 2 times with no wreck (hasn't wrapped up against anything). I just know the 3rd time will be the charm (wreck) and I can't take that chance with my 6 or 8 year old on the back of the bike. I just need a little more top end, lower RPM at highway speeds so from what your telling me I should do just fine with a 15/42. I have even seen rear sprockets on JT that were a 38 which I'm not really comfortable with. I don't really want to go any more than that due to losing take off (torque), it doesn't have much to begin with! LOL! I have a NOS kit to install, got it from Sigma6 on E-BAY. I'm about to order a rejetting kit from them also. They take every variable, (mods, what you do with the bike, original specs., etc...) to make a kit just for your bike. I believe it even has at least 5 more mods to do to the carb so I'm going to talk to them here shortly about the gearing. The NOS kit came with 8 CO2 looking cartridges (not a big kit is what I'm saying) and I got it just to have a little fun every once in a while. LOL! I ran 110 Octane in my bike for about 2 1/2 weeks until my plug blew apart, no engine damage somehow, just turned my exhaust snow white inside and my exhaust valve snow white! No smoke, bike felt fine after switching back to 93 Octane. I was running .6 of 110 and filling it up the rest of the way with 93 so that was a bit much for my poor little 125cc engine! LMAO! Lessons Learned! I'm used to cars, this is my 1st bike, finally, at the age of 34. The NOS won't be used very often due to not wanting to blow the bike up! More of a conversation piece. Being an out of work Professional Auto-Technician I know and have seen the effects of "stupid" or "people with a lack of common sense" to be a little nicer about it using NOS! It is something not to play around with if you don't know what your doing! I have built "HOT RODS" for years, never had NOS so for $45 I couldn't pass it up! That would been me not using my "common sense"! LOL! I will talk to Z1 since you hold a high opinion of them. The lowest cc's that they listed was 200cc and up I believe. Let me know your thoughts on this if you don't mind. I am planning on building my own handmade Conical Air Injection System, "cheaper than $250.00"! I also am more than likely going to relocate the battery since it sits in the same box as the old air box. Just trying to clean up the look, Emissions were broken so I removed them and I am going to be building an extension for my forward controls since I'm 5'10" and I feel like a Monkey humping a bananna on it! LMAO!!! Going to modify the seat so that it sits lower, making custom fenders, taking off a lot of the "plastic chrome", I think it looks a lot better that way. Anyway I think you know the direction I'm taking with the bike, hate my handle bars, took the windshield off, etc... Eventually I will build a full custom, stretch the frame and widen it, find a used larger engine, preferably a HD V-Twin, (hope that don't **** ya'll off too much)! LOL! I have the bike down to the frame right now but it wouldn't take a day or 2 to have it back together and running. Didn't mean to throw so much at you, got excited thinking about it! Anyway, hit me back up when you get a chance Bro and I appreciate your help on this! Going to open up a full custom shop where I do everything from Mopeds to Hot Rods so wish me luck on this venture I'm about to persue which is "MY DREAM"! Later, AROD

There's only so much you can do w any bike and probably less so w a 125.
I didn't read very much of that last post: Have you considered getting something bigger? A Ninja 250 perhaps?

The sprocket rule is a general thing. It's not 1T Fr = 2-3T Rr. Increasing the size of the Fr by 1T will have the same basic effect as Decreasing the Rr by 2T or 3T. Or vice versa, ie, decreasing the Fr & increasing the Rr. It's kinda the same principle as a 10-speed bicycle.

GearingCommander.com. You could fiddle around w gearingcommander. The 04-09 Eliminator 125 is on the list.

Chain adjustment. I don't think of it as tightening the chain, but rather, doing a chain adjustment & making sure there is the correct amount of slack. When someone says they tightened their chain, I wonder if they are literally taking all of the slack out of the chain (not good).

its a NON-O-RING chain martin so its never ever gonna last worth a crap on anything ..... even a 125....

sorry i never mentioned going down in teeth on the rear... figured ya knew that and just wanted to do it easy with 1t up front...

Sorry I haven't been on here lately, been going through some depression, my life is falling apart around me, (family problems, divorce, etc...) anyway, I have been tightening or adjusting I guess would be the proper word here per specs by the manual. The nuts are at the very back of the frame and it has plenty of slack. It is a non O-ring chain and is close to the specs on when it should be replaced. When I push my bike it has a tight spot and then loosens up, chain has come off twice while riding, thank GOD it never got hung up and flipped me. I have decided to just go from 46T to 42T on the back sprocket. I'm just trying to get a little more top end out of it until I can get a new bike, looking at either buying or building a custom Harley inspired V-Twin or a V-Rod or an older Harley, (Pan Head, Shovel Head). I definitely need a chain so I'm going to replace the front sprocket with a 15T which is stock, don't want to loose all of my bottom end. Once my sprockets arrive I will then measure for the new chain and order one. Thanks for all of your help, guess I need to put my bike back together, I took it down to the frame, thinking about stretching it, raking it out, etc... I will be doing all of the work which makes it a lot cheaper but I'm going nuts not having my bike to ride so I'll probably just put it back together and make a bracket to extend my forward controls, I need to be able to stretch out my legs a few more inches, I feel like a Gorilla humping a Banana on my bike! LOL! Anyway, thanks again, gotta get back outside to try and finish my 94 Ram so I can drive it again. Later, AROD

Sorry I haven't been on here, been depressed. Anyway, It's my 1st bike and I have a lot to learn about them! LOL! I'm going to just get a 42T in place of the 46T on the rear. Just need a little more top end. I'm going to get a new 15T, which is stock for the front so I don't loose all of my bottom end. When my sprockets arrive I will measure for the new chain. Yes, your right, it is a non o-ring chain, it will never last very long. I took my bike down to the frame so I need to get to working on putting it back together, was going to go ahead and stretch it a little but I'm looking for a custom Harley style bike with a V-Twin, an older Harley (Pan Head, Shovel Head, etc...) a V-Rod, something like that. Until I can afford another bike I'm going to make a bracket to extend my forward controls so I can stretch my legs out and be more comfortable! Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate it! Thank You and GOD Bless! Arod
